AWWC’s January Virtual Luncheon – Exploring Texas River Fishing Opportunities by TPWD 

Exploring Texas River Fishing Opportunities by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Tim Birdsong. This presentation will spotlight high-quality river fisheries in Texas, profile the economic value of Texas river fisheries, discuss Texas river access and navigability laws, spotlight efforts to manage and conserve river sport fishes such as Guadalupe Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Rio Grande Cichlid, and White Bass, and profile recent access improvements for Texas river anglers.

This week, join John O’Connell, Texas Sea Grant’s Brazoria County Extension Agent – Coastal & Marine Resources in exploring Marine Debris and Plastic Pollution in Texas.

Birdability Virtual Field Trip: Birdability is dedicated to making birding accessible for everybody by addressing the exclusion of people with disabilities in outdoor recreation. Learn more at birdability.org.

Saturday, January 9 at 10:00 am to 11:30 am 

Climate Watch Training: Participation in Climate Watch is a unique opportunity to show the impact of global climate change on a personal, local level. This Audubon initiative relies on community members to observe potentially vulnerable bird species and report their findings, helping scientists understand how birds are responding to a changing climate. You do not need to be an experienced birder to participate; just be willing to learn to identify an assigned bird species and be available to survey one morning during the period of January 15-February 15.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park: Creature Feature (Virtual): Attend a Zoom Webinar from Lake Corpus Christi State Park to learn about a creature we have at the park!

The Museum of South Texas History presents “Killer Bees! The Panic over Africanized Honeybees in the Rio Grande Valley” featuring Dr. Jamie Starling, a Sunday Speaker Series Online presentation to be held on Facebook Live. 


Tuesday, January 12 at 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm 

TMN Tuesday: On the Second Tuesday of each month at the noon hour (12PM Central Standard Time), the TMN State Office will offer an hour-long virtual advanced training event (sometimes including some fantastic new and returning guest speakers). More information about each of these monthly events is pending, but in the meantime – save these dates!

Lake Corpus Christi State Park: Saturday Morning Sit Down (online): Join a ranger on Facebook Live for Lake Corpus Christi State Park updates, Q&A, and other fun information. Join a ranger each Saturday at 9 a.m. on Facebook Live for updates, information, and a chance for a question and answer. Each week will feature a different location within the park and the opportunity to get your questions directly to a ranger.

STB Chapter Meeting: Speaker TBD 


Tuesday, January 19th, 26th, and February 2 2021, 1pm to 2:30pm 

Virtual Backyard Birding: This class includes three 1.5-hour sessions on January 19, 26, and February 2, 1:00-2:30 CST. It will be offered through Zoom Web Conferencing, and you need a computer with internet connection and a Zoom account. Registration is $30 for members and $35 for non-members, and is limited to 28 registrants. Registrants will receive instructions on accessing the meetings on January 18th via email. Deadline to register is January 18th at 5 PM CST. 

Deadline to Register is 1-18-2021 $35.00 for all 3 classes 


Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 6:00pm to 7:00pm (online) 

TPWD Aquatic Education: Join us for an info packed one hour session to learn about the history of Rainbow trout in Texas and TPWD’s current stocking around the state, Rainbow trout anatomy and habitat, preferred fishing equipment and tackle, Q&A, and more. 


Sat, January 23, 10:00am – 11:30am 

The Basics of Bird Photography ($5.00): Join this webinar to learn how to take your wildlife photography to the next level. Talented photographer Rob Michaelson will offer suggestions for field techniques and equipment, as well as share his principles of bird photography. Whether you are taking pictures at your own bird feeders or planning your next birding adventure, you will learn tips and ideas in this presentation to refine your images and be a more confident photographer. 


Saturday, January 23, 2021 (9:00am to 3:00pm) ($35) 

Project Wild Workshop: Learn to share conservation with children: Professional development for anyone who works with children. Project WILD invites you to explore and share the fascinating world of wildlife and ecosystems using fun, hands-on educational activities. You will experience engaging TEKS-aligned activities while networking with other educators. Two hours independent field work. Upon completion of the independent work, pick up your books at McKinney Falls State Park.
