Attacking guinea grass

contributed by Roberto Gaitan

After a rain-out on Saturday, we met to pull guinea grass from the top area of the fish trails. We mowed the grass we had trimmed last week…until Molly broke the mower.

Watch out David!

I was thinking the area underneath the ebony will make for a great spot for a pollinator garden. We’ll investigate what plants should thrive there. Perhaps tropical sage, wolfberry, plumbago, lantana, milkberry, marine vine, passion flower…to name a few.

We also worked on the lower area cutting the guinea grass and pulling out dead palms and branches. We’ll continue in both areas on Saturday.

Oh! We found the shells of the dreaded Apple Snails. They are huge! I wish I’ll have to remember it for the 2022 City Nature Challenge!
